Here at St. Helena Dental Group, we know how important it is for our patients to have a beautiful radiant smile. That is why we offer the various restorative solutions for missing teeth. Dental Implants are one of the most effective ways to restore missing teeth, by screwing the implants or abutments into your jawbone to fit in your replacement teeth.
Titanium is used for the implants, which act as a strong foundation to hold the replacement teeth, and it also allows the bone to bond successfully with the implant. Implants can be used to restore one, a few or all teeth but also to provide more stabilization for dentures, making them more comfortable than regular ones that might slip out.
If you decide that dental implants are the best solution for you, you won’t be disappointed! Out of all the other restorative solutions for missing teeth, implants are the most natural looking, and they will match your natural teeth perfectly giving you a radiant smile.
Once the doctor has decided this is the best option for your dental needs, an examination of your mouth will be carried out to make sure your jawbone is strong enough to hold the implants and that your teeth and gums are healthy.
Taking an X-ray of your mouth will reveal this, however, if the dentist decides that your jawbone is too thin or not strong enough, bone-grafting treatment might be recommended. This will add a stronger base for the implants to be held in place, and although it might lengthen the process – it will be the best option for your treatment.
If bone grafting was required, once the bone has fused to your jawbone to create a stronger base, the implants will be implanted into the bone and left to heal to bond and heal alongside the bone. Once the healing has finished, the replacement teeth will then be screwed to the implants.
Dental technology has improved in the last few years which has allowed implant technology to make it easier for patients to get replacement teeth. The latest improvement has been the all-on-four treatment, which allows a full set of teeth to be replaced using only four implants.
In the past a full set of teeth would require implants for each one or at least more than four for a full set, however that meant bone grafting was definitely needed, and it would take a really long time waiting for the bone to heal and then for the implants to be ready to screw the teeth in.
However, now it only requires four implants – two go at the back of your jaw and two in the front, they are also carefully angled for a better fit. They are similar to normal implants and also made out of titanium to be surgically attached however, it is a huge advantage as it requires far less implants and it is less invasive. Another positive is that it won’t require bone grafts which significantly cuts down the healing time making it a faster treatment, and you can get your replacement teeth during your visit to the dentist that same day.
